We do prefer the customer to be present, as we’ll need access to the vehicle keys to check the wiring. Payment is also required at the time of installation.

Yes, we offer towbar options designed to accommodate bumper sensors, spare wheels, and body kits ect. 

Our sales team will ask you specific questions during booking to ensure the perfect fit.

 Depending on your vehicle’s bumper, a cut may be necessary, either through or underneath the bumper. When this happens, we professionally finish the cut with a rubber trim for a clean, seamless look.

Yes, the listed price includes installation, wiring (unless stated otherwise), and GST. 

If you choose our mobile service, a $40 fee may apply, depending on your location.

Certain vehicles may need a specific wiring kit and recoding programming to ensure towing features, like reverse parking sensors and advanced braking systems, work correctly. This dedicated wiring connects smoothly with your vehicle’s electronics, enabling these features to activate automatically when towing.

For most light vehicles, adding a towbar is seen as a modification but usually doesn’t require special certification, as long as it meets the correct standards and is installed properly.

However, for heavier vehicles weighing over 3,500 kilograms (3.5 tonnes), additional steps like certification is required. We will organise any necessary certification for you at the time of your booking.

All LOCKON towbars come with a lifetime manufacturer's replacement guarantee for the original owner. As long as the towbar is used correctly and within its rated capacity, you’re covered for the life of the vehicle while you own it.

Tongue load is the downward force on the towbar. 

It’s important for safe towing - too much, or too little, can affect your vehicle’s handling. 

You’ll find your vehicle’s recommended tongue load in the owner’s manual.

To prevent rust, keep your towbar clean and dry whenever possible. Rinse off road grime, salt, and moisture, especially after beach trips or wet weather. 

Applying a light coat of lubricant or rust-preventative spray to exposed metal can also help protect it. 

Regular checks and touch-ups on any chipped paint will go a long way in keeping your towbar in top shape.

For light vehicles, we typically need your vehicle for around 8 hours to complete a custom towbar.

For heavy vehicles, we’ll need it for up to 3 days:

Day 1: Towbar fabrication

Day 2: Certification inspection by an approved certifier

Day 3: Certification approval and plate arrival

We’ll coordinate everything for you and keep you updated throughout the process.

Our mobile service fee is $40 within the Auckland City area. 

We define the Auckland City area as east of Henderson, south of Albany, North of Bombay and west of Mission Heights. 

If you're located beyond this area, we may arrange a convenient meet-up with our technician at a nearby carpark for the installation.
